Saskatchewan and Winnipeg delivered another tense Labor Day showdown, but this one took overtime to settle. The Roughriders edged the Blue Bombers 32-26 at Mosaic Stadium after a packed house watched the rivalry turn into a late-afternoon thriller.
The crowd of 34,352 set a new attendance record for a CFL game at the venue. Winnipeg forced the extra session in the final second of regulation when Zach Collaros found Dorian Singer on a five-yard touchdown pass as time expired.
Saskatchewan responded immediately in overtime. Tommy Stevens powered into the end zone from one yard out for his third touchdown of the game, finishing his day with his 15th rushing score of the season. The conversion attempt failed, leaving the door open for Winnipeg to extend the contest.
The defense ended that hope quickly. On third-and-six at the Saskatchewan 31, Winnipeg could not move the chains, and Jameer Thurman made the decisive stop behind the line to seal the victory.
Trevor Harris handled the passing attack for Saskatchewan, completing 23 of 33 throws for 362 yards and a touchdown. The veteran quarterback said the offense took time to settle in, but once it did, the rhythm improved sharply.
“It’s obviously huge. It’s important for us to get these wins at this point in the year,” Harris said. “We’re down some prominent guys, and so the fact that we’re able to kind of grind through it and get these wins is huge for us. We didn’t start out tremendous offensively but thought we really found a rhythm in the middle of the second quarter on.”
Injuries pushed Dhel Duncan-Busby into a larger role, and he delivered one of the best games of his career. With Samuel Emilus and Kian Schaffer-Baker unavailable, the third-year receiver caught 10 passes for 140 yards, including several important grabs on key downs late in the fourth quarter. Both totals were career bests, and his season numbers climbed to 35 catches for 504 yards.
“I just knew that I had to be patient. Obviously, we have a great receiving corps. We’ve got a lot of different guys and, unfortunately, with all the injuries and stuff like that, people have had to step up, and I’m just glad that today was my time,” Duncan-Busby said.
Saskatchewan also got a strong night from its defense, which matched the offense’s urgency and then finished the job in the closing moments. Aubrey Miller Jr., making his first career start at linebacker, said the unit fed off what happened on the other side of the ball.
“The offence set the tone. The offence did that. The offence got us going. They got in the end zone and put points on the board. Only thing we had to do is finish,” Miller said.
Miller, Derick Roberson, and Seyi Oladipo each recorded sacks. The group also kept Winnipeg running back Brady Oliveira in check, limiting him to 28 yards on nine carries after he entered the game with 956 rushing yards.
For Saskatchewan, that combination of pressure and discipline mattered just as much as the overtime score. Winnipeg never found a clean answer once the Riders tightened up in the middle and forced the final third-down stand.
Trevor Harris added a major career milestone to the win. His 72-yard connection with Daniel Wiebe in the second quarter moved him past Doug Flutie and into 10th place on the CFL’s all-time passing yardage list. Harris entered the game 127 yards shy of Flutie’s total of 41,355 and finished the night with 41,590 career yards.
Harris said the moment felt especially fitting because of how many people helped him reach it. He compared the achievement to a turtle on a fence post, a reminder that the quarterback did not get there alone and needed support from teammates and coaches along the way.
He now trails ninth-place Matt Dunigan, who finished with 43,857 passing yards, while Anthony Calvillo still sits well ahead of the field at 79,816. The milestone placed Harris in another elite tier, but the victory mattered more than the ranking.
KeeSean Johnson also reached an important marker. He caught four passes for 32 yards, pushing him past 1,000 receiving yards for the second straight season. Johnson now has 81 receptions for 1,022 yards, slightly behind the pace he set in 2025, when he finished with 86 catches for 1,159 yards.
Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros completed 27 of 40 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns, finding Kevens Clercius and Singer for scores. Quali Conley added a touchdown for Saskatchewan, while Roberson also contributed a safety. Sergio Castillo was perfect on four field-goal attempts for Winnipeg, and Alex Hale made one of three for Saskatchewan.
The teams will meet again on Saturday, September 12, this time in Winnipeg, where another physical chapter in this rivalry awaits.
